Dub's at the Cat Practice with another mystery illness. He's constipated and running a fever, and they're keeping him overnight (at least). He's getting an enema and fluids, and they'll do some blood work which we'll get the results of tomorrow.

We're supposed to be on our way to Providence right now, but we just got back home from taking him in. I'm a mess. We're still going up and I know the little guy is in great hands, but I just feel terrible. I'm a little concerned about how the girls will do overnight without Dub here as a buffer - hopefully they'll continue to give each other a wide berth. And I hope that whatever is causing Dub's issues is minor and easily treatable. The timing is horrible but mostly, I need him healthy and happy. I need my boy. Please keep him in your thoughts.

Update - 4/3/08: Dub passed away shortly after 10:00 this morning at the Cat Practice. Mike was able to get there from his office a few blocks away but he wasn't in the exam room at the time. By the time I arrived he was gone. He went into sudden heart failure - no idea what caused it but they are doing an autopsy. He was six years old.

We are devastated. Words can't really express what a special and amazing little creature he was, and what he meant to us.

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts and kind words.

I'm so sorry, Jen. He was one lucky little guy to have the love and care of you two.

I wish I could remove your pain. I remember it well. It's blinding. The loudest silence ever. I am so unbelievably sorry.
